You have to understand French politics and "RG", renseignements généraux, the French intel, and how this really works in day to day life and over the centuries reality, and it is as Byzantine as an Umberto Eco thriller. Or as nasty as a French king sacrificing the prà etorian guards. The wise President usually selects his arch rival enemy as HIS prime minister, unless he has a clear majority in parliament, and so he can fry quite a few in a span of fourteen years, whether those guys or ladies are of the President Party or not makes ZERO difference. As Prez he is actually by law invited to stay OUT of politics ;-)
