: EUROPE'S ZERO HOUR
My analysis after talking to French people and understanding the reports is this:
It looks like in the massive fallout that will follow now the French coup dEtat, former prime minister Laurent Fabius - a former Mitterand brain kid - is emerging as the future "Presidentiable" unless Szarkosy can hold the line.
The French did exactly what my super rainbow sign said, they linked in a bridge spanning almost 275 degrees of the national parliament circle around the castled sun king -- ranging from die hard communists to right wing nut Le Pen, they all said NO to EU, because they could see what they have in common against the EU.
This what they have all in common is i guess a French secret value system, or a hidden side, something no one can define, beyond "politics", plus a total healthy disrespect for the leadership, whatever leadership it is, and the absolute will to keep national sovereignty and in this particular case the Celtic language of Asterix & Obelix ...
Fabius is the kind of guy who will capitalize on this move most, because he early on did demonstrate himself as being strongly against this EU monster. Chirac will be toast over this, but it was his job to see this silent coup through. It was noted that his "campaign" for the EU was look warm, but it France it is not the Presidential role really to shape these things. The "Euro-Neoliberalism" is going to be sent home, EU will never have the power it thought it would have, and now begins the real questioning, why do other countried in Europe such as Germany not also have a mandatory public direct democracy referendum? If EU law then why not the same direct democratic laws for all? How come only the French and the Dutch and very few others risk it all over this issue in open public debate? The Netherlands seem to follow suit, they also will say no on Wednesday.
Oh... and Thatcher keeps a silent victory for hers. It was always wrong to follow this EU path. But many technocrat politicians had forgotten who their base is. Blair is rethinking how to avoid Saturn in Leo in August...
CNN correspondent says the truth:
"Chirac's decision to give the public a referendum on the issue was a risky one; had he sent the issue straight to parliament, approval was more likely," CNN's European political editor Robin Oakley said.
So in historic terms the opportunist Chirac fulfilled his mission in a loyal way towards his people, to keep France out of the mess. He stated last night that he would apply the voters decision in his next actions. This means among other things that probably prime minister Raffarin takes the fall by Thursday officially over this matter, and maybe EU opponent de Villepin moves in. New technocrats around the leader, a votre santé... and Fabius prepares for his presidency in 2007.
The European landscape has changed somewhat last night. People in Europe are brainwashed over the EU issue, they do not really know what it means when they lose their sovereignty. France has always had this survival instinct at its core. There is still a long way to go to give Europe back to its ancient peoples - the Celts.
