This evening, during the prime time news broadcast, ABC reporters covering the breaking story of Robert P. Hanssen and his arrest for espionage made several references to Opus Dei. Hanssen and his family were said to be members of Opus Dei, the Catholic organization, and it was noted that this group operates the private school where several of Hanssen's sons were educated. Furthermore, it was noted that Hanssen and his whole family attend Mass at the same church in Virginia where FBI Director Louis Freeh is a member, which honors St. Catherine of Siena.
Sherman Skolnick has reported that ABC News is angling to "re-up" on their alleged contract with the Central Intelligence Agency, which supposedly subsidizes their operations in some parts of the world. Skolnick has previously asserted that when CBS News and the whole CBS television group changed hands a few years ago, the News operation was stripped of its CIA retainer. It was not long after that, that they closed a number of eastern European offices, including their long-standing news bureau in Warsaw.
Watching the fast-moving developments today, I was struck by how much information both Fox News and NBC News had gathered ... about Robert Hanssen ... in what seems like a very short time.
Either ABC or Fox News also reported this evening that there is a strong suspicion that Hanssen either pilfered or helped to pilfer one or perhaps two State Department lap-top computers, last year. Considering that he was counter-intel and well-acquainted with all things Russian, we have to ask several very leading questions:
A) did Hanssen place or help to place the listening device in the conference room at the State Department, which was discovered sometime last year?
B) was he using Opus Dei and his conservative Catholic "appearance" as a false front, or was he operating as a triple agent, feeding U.S. intel to the Russians and then reporting on both sides' efforts to whatever body or control runs Opus Dei?
C) is Opus Dei a secret society, with an above-ground organization which collects money for legitimate activities while simultaneously funding covert operations? and therefore, does Opus Dei create and maintain Titles of Honour, which were and are prohibited by the original Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution for the United States?
D) is this discovery and the seemingly obvious "pre-publication" briefings given to both NBC News and Fox News some kind of CIA inspired movement against Opus Dei, or against a renegade faction in the Federal Bureau of Investigation?
E) was Robert Hanssen ever in touch with Robert Goetzmann, or other dual-agency intel operatives who once worked for the administration of George H.W. Bush on computerized network surveillance and communications (and thus, in a position to know something about the Japanese penetration of all White House communications, as alleged by computer expert Debra Von Trapp, in her explanation of the Oklahoma City bomb attack)???
And was this a "breaking development" or was George W. Bush sequestered somewhere "safe" for the last three or four days, as elements loyal to him and his father's team prepared to drop the hammer on this apparently treasonous FBI man?
Perhaps the signicance of St. Catherine of Siena in all of this can be explained or illuminated for us by the splendid Gigi!?!
