: HANOVER, N.H. (AP) - Police were investigating the deaths of
: two Dartmouth College professors Saturday night, a dean at
: the school said.
: Hanover police have refused to release information on the
: investigation, but Edward Berger, dean of faculty for arts
: and sciences, identified the victims as Susanne and Half
: Zantop.
: "Apparently, the police were called to the home sometime
: around 6:30 p.m.," Berger said. "They and the
: guests (the Zantops) were expecting found the bodies."
: Berger added, "All I know is I got a call from safety and
: security about 9:30 p.m. and the chief of safety and
: security had been in contact with police and he reported to
: me the names of the two faculty involved."
: Several police officers and sheriff's deputies surrounded the
: Zantop home which sits in a wooded area.
: Susanne Zantop was a German professor. Half Zantop was an
: earth sciences professor.
: "They were both distinguished teaching research
: professors at the college," Berger said, adding they
: had been at the college at least 25 years.
: "They were wonderful, dedicated teachers who were
: involved in so many different ways on campus and in their
: research," he added.
: "I'm quite shocked," Dartmouth President Jim Wright
: told The Associated Press before Berger confirmed the
: names. "I don't know if I'm going to sleep tonight,
: wondering about this."
