LEBAN.GOVT.REJECTS!! US/F–CALL FOR WITHDR.SYR.TROOPS
As just reported by German Press Agency the Lebanese!!(sic) Government has rejected the U.S./French call for withdrawal of Syrian troops stationed in their country as a 'factor of stability'. This 'call' ain't nothing new said FM Mahmud Hammud in Beirut.
Moreover the EU-call for an 'international commission' in the Hariri-investigation was rejected likewise. "The Lebanese authorities will continue with their investigations and will be supported by an UN-team". The UN commisssion will be lead by Irelands deputy police-chief Peter Fitzgerald who will arrive at the scene of the crime during the next days. As UN-Speaker Fred Eckhard in New York pointed out - the commission will have the legal powers to extend its investigations even to other countries.
This step shows the attempts of the Lebanese Gouvernment of 'taking the reins' of the developments for not getting in between the millstones of the present powers around...
