The story goes that the original Paul McCartney got killed during a kidnapping where the real 'target' should have been the manager - who 'made' the Beatles - Brian Epstein.
Brian was allegedly killed shortly after in an aircrash when Paul was found dead on a British beach. William Shepard - alias Billy Shears - who was a member of the Canadian police and a singer also, had worked before with the group, then sacrificed his former life to keep the project of the group going - underwent some face alterations - for not giving the clandestine forces who were behind the killings the satisfaction of a success.
The project the Beatles seemed to have become too important for many people for just letting them 'die'...
It is said that the Beatles went on their famous India-journey for that reason trying to 'transform' the soul of Paul into the body of 'Faul McCartney' as John used to call the new, old member. See that 'The Beatles' were called henceforth only 'Beatles'...
It is said that the later work of the group included a manifold of 'hidden hints' pointing towards the 'replacement' of Paul by Billy Shears. The name of Billy's former group was 'The Pepperpots'...
