THE UN AGENTS: Carina Perelli and Sir Prendergast *PIC*
The international organization that has co-operated in, and lent its prestige and credibility to, the sham Iraqi elections is the United Nations, in particular its Under Secretary-General for Political Affairs Sir (Walter) Kieran Prendergast KCVO, CMG (British knighthoods), and Carina Perelli, director of the U.N. Electoral Assistance Division.
"Everything is done," Prendergast said on January 26. "The arrangements are in place," and it is now up to the Iraqi people to proceed with the vote which, "however imperfect [he knew very well how 'imperfect' it would be], is the right instrument of policy for a democratic political transition in Iraq," the Under Secretary-General said at a press conference on the elections and the U.N. role as technical adviser.
Sir Prendergast indulged in a bizarre discussion of his favorite New York restaurants, the cost of eating in them, and his wine-drinking schedule during this conference. He seemed utterly oblivious of the fact that most Iraqis have lacked clean drinking water, medicines, and basic food stuffs for much of the past 15 years thanks to international crimes committed by his nation (U.K.) and brutal sanctions imposed by his organization (U.N.) The sanctions were described as "genocidal" by UN professionals.
Perelli, director of the U.N. Electoral Assistance Division, said that the technical mechanisms now in place are "very sound," but the Iraqi people will be the ones who will have to determine whether the elections are "credible."
Perelli, an Uruguayan, calls herself a "professional of elections" but she obviously doesn't understand how democratic and transparent elections are supposed to be held.
These two individuals are clearly involved, at the highest level, in the organization of sham elections in Iraq.
UN spokesman have been utterly unable, for more than one week, to answer any of my questions about the fundamental flaws in the Iraqi elections.
