This sounds like the politicos of America as well. Or maybe this is just the way the "elite" are. They feel that they have a useful skill though, that of mass manipulation, for what fools are we to sell out the children for empty promises and false hopes.
How do politicians (and lawyers as well) really make the world a better place. Lawyers don't get punished for doing wrong, rather they are made into judges, while lawyers who fight for what they believe is right are punished like Lynne Stewart (http://www.lynnestewart.org/).
If you are not a corrupt pro communist attorney there is no place at the table for you. Say what you want, but do what we tell you (ok you can't say what you want, look at Ernst Zundel, who did what they told him, but kept believing that what the evidence he had said was more true than some books that were written by people who repeated wartime propaganda).
