I should say that yesterday the TV news in Spain -at least in the main channels- showed an image that puzzled me. A close look of Laura Bush saluting to the parade rising her right arm and using the same gesture. At the same time, some of the people that were on the parade ( at the head of one formation ) raised their arms and returned the same salute.
I have seen this gesture many times, related to some politicians like Clinton, Bush, even prince Harry. Apart from the popular use of this salute in rock music ( mainly in heavy or black metal ), the horned hand is associated with satanism and satanic salute, that is a fact not an imagination.
I should say, however, that this same gesture has other meaning in many mediterranean countries. In fact if a political leader would have used this salute here in Spain ( or Italy, Greece, etc ) that would be considered an insult or would have caused a lot of laughs, because has sexual connotations. The horned hand here means that in a couple one of them is cheating the other; from that comes the expression "ser un cornudo/a" ( "be a horny one" ). Is said then that the man/woman cheated "wears horns".
