On September 11, 2001, the same day the World Trade Center and Pentagon were hit by terrorists, a Chinese Peoples Liberation Army transport aircraft from Beijing landed in Kabul with the most important delegation the ruling Taliban had ever received, writes Gordon Thomas, author of Seeds of Fire: China and the Story Behind the Attack on America ($25.95, Dandelion Books).
Hours later, CIA Director George Tenet received a coded 'red alert' message from Mossad's Tel Aviv headquarters that presented what he called a 'worst case scenario' "that China would use a ruthless surrogate, bin Laden, to attack the United States," says Thomas, who has over thirty years of experience as a foreign affairs reporter and investigative journalist.
The Chinese delegation had come to sign the contract with Afghanistan that Osama bin Laden had asked for, that would provide the Taliban with missile-tracking, state of the art communications, and air defense systems in exchange for the Taliban's promise to end the attacks by Muslim extremists in China's north-western regions.**
"In order to catch the villain who did the 9/11 deed, it was necessary to remove a sovereign, albeit entirely screwed up government from power and replace it with an equally screwed up government," states Brasscheck (ken@brasscheck.com , 5-18-02). "That the new government is agreeable to terms for a new oil pipeline tapping hundreds of billions of dollars of energy and the old one wasn't is a pure coincidence.�"
The country Brasscheck is talking about is, of course, Afghanistan.
"China by 2015 will have deployed tens to several tens of missiles with nuclear warheads targeted against the US," predicts a CIA briefing paper to the Bush Administration, according to Thomas. Seeds of Fire contains a large number of official unpublished documents pertaining to China's global take-over strategies.
John Solomon, Associated Press writer, reported in the Washington Post Friday, May 17 2002):
"Exactly two years before the Sept. 11 attacks, a federal report warned the executive branch that Osama bi Laden's terrorism might hijack an airliner and dive bomb it into the Pentagon or other government building."
The report contrasts with Bush administration officials assertions that none in government had imagined an attack before that time.
"I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile," national security advisor Condoleezza Rice said Thursday.

*September 11, 2001 - Employees of Odigo, Inc. in Israel, one of the world's largest instant messaging companies, with offices in New York, receive threat warnings of an imminent attack on the WTC less than two hours before the first plane hits the WTC. Law enforcement authorities have gone silent about any investigation of this. The Odigo Research and Development offices in Israel are located in the city of Herzliyya, a ritzy suburb of Tel Aviv which is the same location as the Institute for Counter Terrorism which breaks early details of insider trading on 9-11. *September 11, 2001, For 50 minutes, from 8:15 AM until 9:05 AM, with it widely known within the FAA and the military that four planes have been simultaneously hijacked and taken off course, no one notifies the President of the United States. It is not until 9:30 that any Air Force planes are scrambled to intercept, but by then it is too late. This means that the National Command Authority waited for 75 minutes before scrambling aircraft, even though it was known that four simultaneous hijackings had occurred - an event that has never happened in history. *September 29, 2001 - The San Francisco Chronicle reports that $2.5 million in put options on American Airlines and United Airlines are unclaimed. This is likely the result of the suspension in trading on the NYSE after the attacks which gave the Securities and Exchange Commission time to be waiting when the owners showed up to redeem their put options.
*October 10, 2001 - The Pakistani newspaper The Frontier Post reports that U.S. Ambassador Wendy Chamberlain has paid a call on the Pakistani oil minister. A previously abandoned Unocal pipeline from Turkmenistan, across Afghanistan, to the Pakistani coast, for the purpose of selling oil and gas to China, is now back on the table "in view of recent geopolitical developments."

On March 22, [2001], China sent its foreign policy chief Quian Qichen, to Washington. In a face-to-face meeting with Condoleezza Rice, he warned her "of the dangers for peace if the United States continued to supply arms to Taiwan and went ahead with its missile defense shield."
Condoleezza Rice listened politely. But she knew Quian was bluffing. Xu [Xu Junping, the Chinese defector] had told her.
For the moment the Bush Administration could use Xu's inside knowledge to thwart China's intentions to challenge America. But no one could predict how long that advantage would last.

While Xu Junping settled into his secret home in the Witness Protection Program, the crisis over the EP-3 spy plane ended as swiftly as it began. On Friday, April 13, 2001, the Beijing Regime ordered that the crew of twenty-four "fliers and the spy technicians they carried" should be released. The plane, gutted of all its secrets, remained on the ground on the island of Hainan. In keeping with the mood of self-satisfaction and patriotism which swept the United States, one of the crew, Josef Edmonds, proposed to his girlfriend, Sondra White, in Texas; the moment was captured by CNN as Edmonds made his proposal on a brief stopover at Guam on his way back to the United States mainland.

More significantly, hawkish Americans demanded that President Bush should harden his stance against China. The conservative Wall Street Journal spoke for many when it editorialised that "Mr. Bush now needs to extract a price for this behaviour."

The editorial, understandable from the American standpoint, indicated a major misunderstanding of the reality of how the crash-landing of the spy plane on Chinese sovereign territory was seen in Beijing.
While America was bedecked with yellow ribbons of rejoicing at the homecoming of the crew, and the spin doctors in Washington coined the phrase for this as 'Operation Valiant Return', on the other side of the world, in China, the entire incident was seen as another blip, no more, in Beijing's long-term goals. How much Xu Junping warned his debriefers on the matter; how much attention they paid to his words during what, in the U.S., had become a super-heated crisis, we will never know for sure.
China wants the South China Sea all for itself. It wants all U.S. spy plane flights stopped. So far Washington has not agreed. President Bush has spoken of keeping up the flights. But for how long? For the moment he has one card to play: China still needs America's technology. It cannot get it all through the good offices of its new friend, Israel.[Ed.Comm.: LOL, everybody's 'friend' now - or then???...]
But the problem that the Bush Administration faces is that China can never be a simple exercise in foreign policy analysis. The spy-plane incident showed that Beijing was able to display a masterly command of international tactics. In 1986, the Chinese philosopher, Sun Lomgli, said, "There are many walls within the Chinese world; the Great Wall itself merely protects the Chinese against the Devils from without."
The spy-plane incident reveals that the 'devils' within the Great Wall are getting ready to come out and confront those outside. The further the world is from that last confrontation, the closer it is to the next. And that may not end so fortunately for the West as the spy-plane incident.
