Van de Velde has Pentagon post Published Friday, December 8, 2000
Position requires top security clearance
BY ANDREW PACIOREK
YDN Staff Reporter
Former Yale lecturer James Van de Velde '82 is working for the Pentagon and has an "extremely high" level of security clearance, his superior officer has confirmed.
U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Stephen Pope said Wednesday that Van de Velde, the only named suspect in the Suzanne Jovin '99 murder investigation, has been working for the U.S. Defense Department in an active military role for nearly a year.
Van de Velde works in the office of the assistant secretary of defense for command, control, communications and intelligence.
"We are charged with reviewing defense-related classified materials for declassification purposes," Pope said.
Van de Velde's position requires an "extremely high" level of security clearance, "above top secret," Pope added...
My 5c on the story is that there were lots of hints that Jovin was murdered in connection with her work on Terrorism and OBL. - So she wrote about 'terrorist seizing airplanes used for crop-fertilizing spraying whatever'....
I don't think that Van de Velde has committed the crime. It's obvious that Jovin was pushed out of a car (the victim was found with legs on the street...) and the murder did not take place at the location where she was found. The (?) car/van was heading down East Rock Rd., coming from Prospect Street and she was tossed out before the corner turning into Edgehill Rd. - wher Whitney Av. could be reached easily.
It's possible that she wanted to contact Van de Velde on that very evening as the last place where she was seen alive at around 9.30 pm was NOT on her direct way back home (through the campus) but in direction Elm Street away from her home either heading towards a shop or to Van de Velde's office...
