I know this is a subjective observation and that there is probably no objective way for me to confirm it, but the skies in the Gulf of Mexico are preternaturally blue for the summer season when they are covered in humidity laced thunderheads and storms. Normally, when there is lots of humidity the skies between the clouds take on a kind of metallic bluish-silver cast that is almost a milky color. But now, with the temperature at 98 degrees - very hot for the Gulf, normal daytime summer temps in the 85 - 90 degree range - and the humidity at an unnaturally low 30% - remember we are on top of the water and it is very hot - there is a robins egg blue sky over our heads. This is not the Gulf of Mexico I am used to for the last 10 years.
I frankly do not know what to make of it, but to enjoy its beauty and hope that it is not the beauty one sees in an opium poppy, that lulls one away from thinking of the danger that lies beneath...
