Re: An Answer
Dear Rayelan:
A thought about Esclarmonde's post and your reply to her:
About thirty years ago I attended a talk given by Dr. Elizabeth Kubler Ross - at that time her "On Death and Dying" was a popular subject. The talk was sponsored by a local Hadassah sisterhood and the venue was a suburban synagogue.
So, a few of us local high school teachers decided to make it an evening - go out to a nice restaurant and then meet and hear Dr. Kubler-Ross.
The thing I remember the most from that talk was Dr. Kubler-Ross' saying that we have a "spirit or soul" existing before we are born. She was talking more about that and then stopped herself after stating that "because of this pre-existing life spirit, I.E. soul of every individual, we would have to re-think abortion". (Those are not her exact words - but close to them.)
Then Dr. Kubler-Ross explained that because her hostesses were Hadassah and believed in "abortion rights" that she would not continue in this vein as not to offend their hospitality.
I wanted so much for her to continue talking about this - but she could not.
Still remember that evening and Dr. Kubler-Ross standing at the lectern and talking about this life-force....and then the fact that she could not continue so as not to "offend"...
A few years prior to that evening I read a TIME magazine report on this same subject - that we have a life force before we are born and even that we "choose" our parents.
Wish I could find a copy of that report.

Re: An Answer
Dear Rayelan:
Esclarmonde's reply to Lady M was like a blow to the stomach - seemed to put a lie to so much of that touchy, feely, rapturey embrace life stuff E posted before this reply.
I never thought that I would have to live in a society where young women of all ages and colors would justify and march and demonstrate and screech for the "right" to kill their children.
No matter which political party or religion a woman belongs to - if she views "pro choice" (no "choice" for the baby) as something she is entitled to then God help all of us.
This society is aiding and abetting murder - plain and simple.
Far as I am concerned: a woman has the "right" to insist on a condom to be used by her partner
A woman has the "right" to keep her legs together and her feet on the floor and to say "no" to a suitor's ardor.
A woman has the "right" to exercise self control.
A woman does not have any right given by the Creator to kill life.
I was taught by all the woman ancestors in my family to nurture life, to rejoice in the ability to produce life and to know great joy in taking care of life.
I am not a good writer, Rayelan - hope this makes sense as written.
