Sadly, I would have to agree with this. I have gone over the years from a totally convinced supporter of Israel to at last understanding the real situation.
I have mainly found support for this from old and mostly unread books by Jewish authors. Although Norman Finkelstein has written an excellent book condemning the Zionist takeover of Palestine quite recently. It's called:
"Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict", New and Revised Edition by Norman G. Finkelstein, Norman Finkelstein (Paperback - April 2003)
Book Description
This polemical study systematically undermines the popular and scholarly representations of the Israel- Palestine conflict. Opening with a theoretical discussion of Zionism and its roots, Norman Finkelstein goes on to look at the demographic origins of the Palestinians, referencing the work of Joan Peters and critiquing the influential studies of both Benny Morris and Anita Shapira, and closes by demonstrating that the casting of Israel as the innocent victim of Arab aggression in the June 1967 and October 1973 wars is not supported by the documentary record.
In the material added for this new edition, including a new introduction, Finkelstein focuses his attention on the renewed efforts of scholars to justify the brutal actions of Israel in light of the ongoing failure of the peace process.
Editorial Reviews
Noam Chomsky, The Guardian
The most revealing study of the historical background of the conflict. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.
Avi Shlaim, St Antony's College, Oxford University
A major contribution to the study of the Arab-Israeli conflict which deserves to be widely read, especially in the US.
I have also read Finkelstein's "Holocaust Industry" - another excellent book. His credentials, apart from vast intellectual ones, are the fact that BOTH his parents were survivors of the Holocaust.
The church I grew up in and the general milieu I was in at the time had me believing passionately in the false story of "a land without people waiting for a people without land". I continued to believe this until I started to question. It was Aladdin's posts on RMN that really convinced me something was wrong with my world view.
I am NOT anti-jewish. In fact my grandfather on my mother's side was a Scottish Jew. I used to be very proud of this. And in fact I still am. I don't believe the real Jews are a part of the scam that is Israel today.
However, vast numbers of fundamentalist christians do believe in Israel the country. This fits in nicely with their end times Armageddon, in particular the one where they will be raptured before things get too tough down here. Two thirds of the Jews are supposed to die during this time, but not to worry, it's God's will!!!
The Zionists, it seems, actually permitted the slaughter of the European Jews in order to make their case for a nation of their own. And Sharon and his party are still slaughtering - Palestinians now. And enjoying the fact that American soldiers are dying for them in Iraq, quite a lot of which they hope to own one day.
I know there are many, many Jews who did not want a racially pure nation, and do not want the slaughter on both sides to continue. Sadly, their voices are not heard by the PTB.
