Hussein Ibish, communications director of the Washington-based American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee wrote to Christopher Bollyn saying that he felt his comments in the article about abuse at Abu Ghraib did not accurately reflect his position.
This is what the article said:
The abuse at Abu Ghraib resembles Israeli methods applied in
the occupied territories. “Israel is the only country in
which the kind of abuse documented at Abu Ghraib occurs as
a matter of policy,” Hussein Ibish, spokesman for the
American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), the
largest Arab-American organization, told American Free
Press.
DELIBERATE INTELLIGENCE TACTIC
“It was a deliberate intelligence tactic,” Ibish said when
asked if he thought the photos could be part of an Israeli
intelligence plot to damage U.S. relations in the Arab
world. “[Ariel] Sharon plays a zero-sum game,” he said.
“He thinks the worst possible relations between United
States and the people of the Arab and Muslim world is good
for Israel.”
Here is Hussein Ibish's response to this article:
Mr. Bollyn:
In a search of references to my name on the internet, I came across your recent article on the abuses at abu ghraib prison. I don't think you accurately captured my views. As I told you, I haven't seen any evidence yet that the release of these pictures was an Israeli action, let alone an intellegence policy. I also would not suggest that these abuses happen in Israel alone, but rather that Israel is open about such abuses. Please correct your article online - I don't wish to be understood as endorsing the idea that Israel was behind the release of the photos or that these abuses only occur in Israel. I look forward to being advised that these changes have been made forthwith.
Yours, Hussein Ibish
