Although there is doubtless some link between Sumerian and Akkadian creation myths and this Raelian group, one might look for a more recent link between fringe Isamic groups and pseudo-scientific creation myths. I am referring, of course, to the racist "theories" or "revelations" of the late Elijah Mohammed (sp?) who pretty much resembled an alien, himself. I think he went on at length about the white race being created in the genetics lab of one Mr. Yakub. Said lab being situated on one of the Mediterranean islands. Whacky stuff, yet due for some retread mileage as a result of recent genome research.
Compare the racist myths of Elijah Mohammed with the racist fiction of Edgar Rice Burroughs and do a source critical analysis. I think you'll find that Burroughs' hugely entertaining early Tarzan stories influenced Mohammed's religious, racist fiction. I can imagine how infuriating it must have been for a bright black youth to encounter in his reading the sorts of things Burroughs had to say about blacks.
