IF OIL IS NOT RUNNING OUT, WHAT'S THE WAR REALLY ABOUT?

That's the big question then. If oil is abundant across the earth and is not finite, then what in the world are we doing in Iraq? Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world, which many Western industrialized countries will soon be or are already dependent upon. The United States gets most of our oil from Canada, but we are still very much reliant upon oil from the Middle East. Same can be said for Russia, China, France, Germany, North Korea, Canada, and dozens of other countries that are industrialized. The Jihadic fundamentalists want a return to the stone age, and despise American capitalism. Free ideas and free choices do not sit well with these people. They'd prefer to treat women like cows instead of human beings. They also reign over billions of barrels of oil, which the United States and the rest of the world are dependent on to sustain our high standard of living. Agriculture is the primary reason why oil is so important, not transportation as most people probably think. If oil is completely depleted, farmers will have to go back to the donkey and hoe - which doesn't produce alot of food, ask the Indians. Without oil, there are no pesticides, no fertilizers, no chemicals, no plastics, no computer silicon chips, no computers, no vinyl pants you're wearing to the party tonight, no hair dryers, no plastic milk containers, no stereos, no washing detergent bottles, no coffee makers, you get the picture....our high standard of living - the highest in human history, can be completely attributed to oil and its incredible usefulness. Admitting that is the ultimate contradiction for some. I hesitate to believe that oil is an infinite resource, and its abundancy is a top secret conspiracy. Because where there is money to be made, people are going to exploit what is available. Companies too, unless Exxon Mobil and all the rest are in on the scheme...do you really think huge oil companies and men with even bigger egos would turn down the opportunity to tap what hasn't already been tapped? If such an abundancy existed, wouldn't people be discovering it and making themselves filthy rich? So what the hell is the war about then if there is no real shortage of oil? I know Iraq is ancient Babylon, but what's so important there (besides oil) that we needed a war for? Saddam was a dangerous brutal dictator (yes BBC, I said 'dictator') sitting atop the worlds most valuable resource - black gold. Is it just a "crusade?" Is the war about oil? According the Rosalinda and those posting on this particular topic, oil is not the reason why we are fighting in Iraq. I ask then, what are we fighting for? Is there a bigger reason? A more important reason? I have my own views about why we went to war, and one of them is because of oil and its vital strategic importance to our national security, as well as the rest of the free world. But I also think part of it had to do with the fact that Saddam was a brutal thug too dangerous to leave in power, had too much power and was responsible for too much oil. If the war is not about oil at all, and those Russian scientists were right - oil is infinite - then maybe, just maybe, we went to war to liberate the Iraqi people from evil tyranny.
