Excellent post my friend, and yet so true! It did not take a rocket scientist to see that NAFTA would be a hit on American business.
And to make it blunt.. YES, it is part of the plan. The elimination of the middle class, so to speak. And in my opinion, they hide alot in the page 5 and 6 of newspapers; of what should be headlines!! Here is one small example!This article was way back in the paper, sort of hidden?

Henkel, a German consumer products group, is buying Scottsdale-based Dial Corp., the maker of Dial soap, Renuzit air fresheners and Armour Star canned meats, for about $2.9 billion in cash.
The deal, announced late Sunday, would give Henkel, a major European maker of detergents, cosmetics and adhesives, a bigger foothold and a portfolio of brands well-known in the North American market. It allows Dial to become part of a larger, global operation to compete better with consumer products behemoths like Procter & Gamble and Unilever PL... SNIP..."

Just part of the article...a lot of American ICONS of business are being taken over by foreign outfits. And if not being taken over, are being run into the ground by different elements. Another company, a seller of the pickles, recently had an article in The Republic on them too. Sadly, they are in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The article stated that a lot of the problems were it's business with WAL MART. Wal Mart, being the giant that they are, evidently approaches different companies, and says we want to/are considering selling your product. The companies happy to have their products sold in a very famous and well shopped at store by the people of America. Wal Mart tells them, ok, we are also looking at other brands of pickles too, so give us your bids.... It seems, that part of the problem the pickle company encountered was that once they got their product into Wal Mart to be sold, (at considerably lower prices than at Safeway, Basha's, etc.), their product was ONLY selling at Wal Mart. Everyone was going to Wal Mart to buy their pickles. Well, it became a financial problem for the company after a while. To ONLY sell their pickles at much lower prices, was killing their profit margins, evidently! A company can't survive long, if it has to sell it's product at rock bottom, cut rate prices! Or, as in this case, is locked in on a contract with a seller of your products, who sells your product way low priced! They approached Wal Mart and said, Hey can you raise the prices some to save our company? WalMart basically told them tough S**T!
Now of course, one could say that this company should not have bidded so low on supplying WalMart with their product! But, I believe you see my point here too.
And another part of the sad equation is that the middle class, or really anyone in America, is really getting squeezed in the pocket book! People are shopping at Walmart to try to retain, and preserve their standards of living basically. When the wages do not go up with costs of living, what is left over at the end of the month, gets less and less.... DUH! SO... folks will do alot of shopping at stores like Wal Mart to have enough MONEY left over, to take the wife to the movies, or out to dinner a couple of times, get the kids news shoes, etc. Costs have gone up dramtically since 9-11 in my neck of the woods. INSURANCE costs have gone way up, etc. But my wages sure as heck have NOT!
Corporate greed, and the stockholders demands for high dividends have fueled this scenario also. Just ONE more example of this theme is the following article.

It is on IBM shipping engineering jobs overseas AGAIN! Interesting article, worth the read, but still a sad story.
I'll say it AGAIN... In the 21st Century, what is good for American business is NOT necessarily good for America! What good will all their corporate profits be, when all of America is standing in soup kitchen lines? Or are losing their homes, because they can't maintain their mortgage payments?
I just wanted to back up Ghosts post, and throw in a few other examples of what is slowly killing this country...
