Dunno if this relates in _any_ way to your musings, Questionnairy, but this seems
like a good place to add this info. :) Maybe it tells us something about other
anomalous events -- car batteries dieing, light bulbs burning out, etc.
A good question, I guess, would be, "What's the nature of any interaction between
the "interplanetary magnetic field" (mentioned below) and the "planetary magnetic
field"...?

As predicted, the Earth entered a high-speed solar wind stream around
OO:00UT Aug. 21. The solar wind speed has now reached 570km/s, with a
Southward orientation of the interplanetary magnetic field.
This triggered active to minor storm geomagnetic conditions, which are
expected to last for the next 2 or 3 days.
