Very good post, Aladdin. And the biological and behavioral evidence also supports this. We have essentially the same "wiring" as our hunter-gatherer ancestors did. The difference between us and them is simply the creation of city-states (which have become overpopulated in many cases, leading to all sorts of pathological behaviors) and increasingly sophisticated technology. The development of technology is an eyeblink's worth of time in the history and pre-history of our species. Therefore, we have created technology that we really don't understand, and therefore it is often used incorrectly and/or without regard to the consequences of its use.
So here we are, a species that was meant to be widely dispersed in clans or tribes, and whose cognitive functions are focused on survival, e.g., toolmaking, weapon making, collective hunting, and gathering of edible vegetation. Meanwhile, we are unconsciously trying to come to grips with the terror that goes with cognition and self-awareness (e.g., we can appreciate our own mortality), which tends lead to "stranger danger" behaviors, fearing other humans who are not from our clan or tribe and/or look different from us. And, of course, we are terrified of the elements as we cannot control them.
Is it any surprise, therefore, that we are still focused on building weapons and tools, and as the globe becomes more populated, also fighting over food? Meanwhile the traditional hunters among us, the males, gather fraternally as our ancestors did for "the hunt" and, since technology has made hunting unnecessary, we gather collectively to plot and plan how to control the elements and eliminate stranger danger. Hence, we now have these pathologically male-centric societies, that use hierarchy to monitor and control power.
Traditional societies were often much more egalitarian than ours is. There was a division of labor, to be sure, but it was based not on who is the most politically powerful, but on who can get the job done. Hence, usually women collected the bulk of the food through gathering activities, while men used social hunting techniques and their own brawn to hunt the meat that was occasionally available for food. Neither was considered better than the other, simply different, and therefore more suited to different activities.
