Coke and Pepsi commercials

I have a question. Has there been a conscious strategy to make Coke commercials really attractive--which they are--and to make Pepsi commercials really lame and irritating--which they REALLY are?
I have never understood why Pepsi has always made really lame commercials. Who they are trying to appeal to in those commercials? The ones with the little girl singing with a diva's voice, the "Uh huh" ones, etc., etc. Ick.
There's a conspiracy theory right there. Pepsi shoots itself in the foot intentionally. Kind of like the Republican party. Maybe the same people are in control of both Coke and Pepsi, to make us think we have a choice. Just like the situation with the Democans/Republicrats. Man, that's starting to sound like a cliche. History is a cliche.
I drink Sam's Cola and Vess Cola myself. I wonder how those brands rate on the Lucifer meter. Maybe we shouldn't be drinking any soda at all. I'm starting to think that buying anything unnecessary is likely to be supporting something evil--new cars, CD's, snack foods, fast foods, video rentals, DVD's, home theater systems, etc., etc.
