Just a thought: when I first read "The Shape of Things To Come"
I wondered whether there was a kernel of truth to Wells' account
of his dealings with "Dr. Philip Raven".
It struck me that the account could have been a combination of information obtained
from communications with Lord Arthur Balfour, who shares much in common with the background
attributed to Raven (involvement with the League of Nations, death in 1930, etc.) combined with Wells'
own embellishments as a writer.
Balfour would have had an excellent grasp of behind the scenes
intrigues -- and predicting future events is made all the easier
if one starts out with an excellent grasp of current events. I'm
personally more inclined to believe that Balfour (or perhaps other contemporaries) indoctrinated Wells to some extent in their long range schemes
in a similar way that Albert Pike attempted with his infamous letter to Guiseppe Mazzini.

This article by Aijaz Ahmad makes a convincing argument that Saddam Hussein "took a dive" by failing to defend Baghdad from the American and British invaders.
Ahmad writes about Iraqi national characteristics that are emerging to resist the foreign occupation.
