: Bush & Company wants to attack Iraq. The mainstream news
: prostitutes tell us why, over and over--the same
: litany--while alternative news sources list many other
: reasons, but what if NONE of the reasons pontificated--to
: death--are true? What if we're being hoodwinked and
: bamboozled--again?
: Many nations are opposed to a war with Iraq, and world opinion
: is against the war, in fact, almost the whole world is
: demanding that the United Nations STOP America.
: But Bush & Company and many Americans--oblivious to the
: clamor and undaunted--press on.
......
: So what's going on--really?
: Now this is just a guess, and perhaps my brains are pea soup,
: but I get this gut feeling, this nagging in my noggin, that
: the potential war with Iraq is a ruse; is being used by
: "THEM" to promote ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT via. the
: United Nations.
I know Rayelan strongly favors this belief, but I don't believe it at all. (This is not a personal attack on Rayelan, because I have great respect for her and appreciate the enormous effort and determination she has made to create, maintain and develop this forum--against all the odds. I take it that she intends this to be a forum that is open to opinions that differ from her own.)
As I see it, the United Nations is a new entity among the nations of the world. It is still a struggling infant, but an entity whose survival is crucial to any picture of a world community where human intelligence and ingenuity can be brought to bear on the problems of continued human survival, in a world where we are, in general, our own worst enemy, but also, potentially, our own best friend.
Senseless, destructive war--"tribal enmity" writ large, has been a characteristic of human activity from the beginning. It is, I believe, a "natural" element--a law of nature in fact: "natural selection," natural competition to survive in a world where, literally, there may not be enough to go around for all the mouths that hunger. We see it in all species, so why not acknowledge that it is part of our nature, since observation of nature (and history) tells us that it is. And it has been "successful"--we have grown within the last 20,000 years from an infant species struggling to survive in a not-too-friendly environment, to a species that dominates every corner of the earth--quite an astonishing achievement! And we did it all with our brains, not our brawn--by inventing and making things, and by learning to work together. We (human beings) are unique in this triumph. I know I am saying only what is obvious, but this is how I arrive at the conclusion that the U.N. is not out to "get us."
"Nations" arose as human family groups coalesced into tribes, in certain regions, and tribes gradually learned to co-exist without murdering each other. And we see this process still going on in certain parts of the world; ask any anthropologist for examples. So then we have "tribes," and through struggles, not without blood, groups of people in regions have come to see themselves as "nations" who will work together for their own surival in a world where there are other nations over the horizon. The natural impulse to "take over", to expand into other nations' territory, is still with us; it has just grown larger to cover the territory. Again this is so obvious that I know it's boring to hear, since we all know it to be true, but in my opinion, it does lead to the U.N. as a necessary step for our survival, and not as slaves.
Wars between nations are the backbone of what we call "history." World War I was the worst international brouhaha the world had ever seen. Out of it was born the League of Nations, a first attempt to set up a body which might provide a means of human development and growth without the desolation and destruction of worldwide "natural" national strugggles for scarce resources. This infant did not survive, as many infants do not. World War II then ensued, even worse than WWI. And another attempt was made to find a solution for these wars, which grow more potentially disastrous to the whole human race with every ingenious new development in weaponry, which has now become planet-destroying in scope.
So do you really think the United Nations is "out to get us"? I think that WE are PART of the Nations of the WorldH hopefully, if we can grow up a little more, the "United Nations" will be US some day. But we need to allow this child, who has somehow survived its infancy, going the League of Nations one better, to survive. The U.N.is still immature. It has a beautiful building, built in the United States when we as a nation were more idealistic and still believed in and supported our own Constitution. Over the years, Whenever our Government decided to pursue aggression against other nations, we cut off funding to the UN and wished it dead, but somehow this child survived.
All nations are beset with difficulties, but they are I believe concerned with their own survival. The idea that the coalition of Nations that exists in the United Nations constitutes a threat to OUR OWN freedom is quite paranoid in my opinion. While there may be threats to our own nation, I think that they come from another grim source which has also been with human beings right from the start: and that is the "natural" desire in some people to own more, and control more, than their neighbors. Writ large, it is the war of the "have-a-lots" against the "have-a-littles," or the rich and powerful against the poor and not-powerful. This too is a major element in human history. And if by my bringing it up once more, someone is going to label me a "communist" then I would suggest that that they do not understand history very well.
I think those who want to look beyond the obvious enemies of peace (the Bush administration of warhawks and their supporters, the owners of the megacorporations, etc.) to another level of "enemies", called the U.N., are ignoring the fact that Separate NATIONS make up the United Nations, and that each of these separate Nations is, properly, concerned with the survival and hopefully the prosperity of their own nation.
We seem to have forgotten somehow that without France's help, the United States would have lost the Revolutionary War and we might still be a British colony. It took some decades for France and Germany to grow up and to be able to ally themselves, together with Russia and China, to defy the wouldbe bully on the block (hey--that's US!) and I think it is a triumph of growth. With the development of hydrogen-based energy in a peaceful world, we could let the demon of oil drop back into the ground and end pollution. We have a great opportunity here, for peaceful development, and WE--THE U.S. UNDER THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION--are the horrifying block to that peaceful development.
In our own 200 years of development as a nation, we have learned and developed a great deal. We are not a homogenous nation of tribes, but a true melting pot, and we have learned, painfully to accept each other in this pot--not perfectly, but at least to some extent. We are all "minority groups" here. And though many are still not fully "free", many at least coming into their own to some extent. We are melting into a wonderful mixture of races and colors, and life could be sweet for us and for the world if we could look at our difficulties realistically and solve them rationally.
It is tragic that just at this nexus where we could surge forward WITH the rest of the human race, that our Presidency has been bought by $$$$ for a person who has no qualities of mind or soul that qualify him for this position. I don't "sympathize" with George Bush. He has bought into the myth that his rich family makes him "qualified" to "lead" us into hell, and that is what he is doing. This too has happoened again and again in history. Some wealthy, powerful parents, who relish empire at all costs, have put their untested spawn on thrones, and the results have been at times disastrous. The stakes are high this time. The United Nations could be slain, as Bush seems to wish to do. The extent of the spiteful emanations from the White House are staggering. What is going on "behind the scenes" of the preparation and trumpeting of this hideous "war" is a massive attack on our own civil liberties, the likes of which have never been seen before. And this is not being done by any member of the United Nations, except our own present administration.
..........
: If this is true, if the real issue is that "THEY"
: want the United Nations (or another world government) to be
: supreme, over all nations, then in the next few days you
: will see Bush & Company acquiesce to the United Nations
: and declare that every nation, even the world's only super
: power, must obey the United Nations.
......
Some sources indicate that the Bush administration (or some elements of it) are looking for ways to "stand down" from the war, but somehow keep their reputation intact (a tough order!). I doubt that they will ever say we ought to obey the United Nations! The United Nations would, I believe fall over in their respective chairs if that were to happen! I know I would.
: On the other hand, maybe the REAL FREE PRESS in America had it
: right all along, it's about oil, the Euro, Israel, our
: economy, or even sonny George settling daddy's score, and
: if that's true, then we all better duck-tape and cover, but
: if it is about world government, "THEY" are truly
: the masters of deceit, and "THEY" now have the
: whole world eating out of their hands--literally--and soon,
: literally.
I think it's Sonny George, addle-brained from too much booze and cocaine, and too much Aspartame. (I've been looking it up some more, and it is really a nightmare drug sneaking in under the FDA radar to destroy many people, thanks to Rumsfeld who made $14 million on the deal.) I wish there were some way that George could have a thorough examination of his mental and physical health. Perhaps, with our advanced technology, it might be determined (objectively) that he is not fit to occupy the role of President. He is, after all, the one with the finger on the button.
