One of the ways intelligence agents and administrations jockey over opposing positions about which details they will allow to be declassified is by verifying what already is in the public domain. For example, some of what Powell released was reported by the Northern Alliance of Iraq months and even years ago.
What is newsworthy in Powell’s speech is NOT the information, most of which I had seen before. It is the CONFIRMATION of reports that I have no way of investigating myself.
Although I admit the Brit's plagiarism, if true, is indeed sloppy, I am left with the question of who in Blair’s administration would be motivated to do such a profoundly incompetent job as to deliberately and blatantly try to sabotage Blair's position?
Already we know one of Blair’s cocky assistants gave an interview dooming his position. Are her fingerprints are all over the dossier? Or was that story planted as a cover to deflect heat in anticipation of the sloppy dossier already in the works?
