In 1963 an Aramaic manuscript was unearthed in resin encasement inside Israel. Two men tightly guarded the discovery. One who was a Greek Catholic priest fluent in Aramaic began to translate the scrolls. While translating, he began to notice that the book of Matthew was based on some of the text already translated. In private, he spoke to a few people in the Jerusalem area about the scrolls and translations. A small portion of the book was translated. By 1970 he realized that two groups of religious authorities (Jews and Christian foundation societies) in Jerusalem were after him to get the original Emmanuel scrolls. He stated that the bible was full of lies, and that what he had seen so far contradicts the bible and was very critical of the Jews and Christians. He fled to a Lebanese refugee camp trying to escape his pursuers. The Israeli military raided the camp causing fire to erupt in a large section of the refugee camp before he could secure the Aramaic scrolls. He then fled to Baghdad where the affiliated authorities found and assassinated him in 1976. The speculation was that the scroll was destroyed in Lebanon. His pursuers feared the manuscript because it would interfere with their plans.
I have no information to suggest that this is what the Templars have.
