AirTran Airlines is calling the circulating email an urban legend. (Link and snip below.)
All I can add is that this is one of two things. Either the airline is covering up, or this email and other similar items are designed to distract from the news which came out recently that the cockpit doors on Flight 77 were never opened during 9/11.

I find it interesting that this comes forward about the same time as the Climategate busting of the Global (or Glow Bull) Warming scam.

One can look over the government apologist 'skeptic' sites and see some of them doing acrobatics insisting it is 'possible' that the 'hijackers' could have opened and closed the cockpit door within the apparently required four seconds needed for the door indicator to not register a change. More than four seconds and a change is recorded.
They were supposedly going to die for Allah and their virgins, why would any of them worry not to keep a door open for longer than four seconds? Because they might get busted? Reminds me of Lt. Columbo: "It's the little things that bother me..."

If the information is true and verifiable, it would be worthy of a Sherlock Holmes story. Instead of the dog that did not bark, we have the cockpit door that did not open.

If the AirTran 297 email is designed to distract, then I would expect to see more and more "the Muslims are coming to kill us all" emails in the foreseeable future.
The wide-open Climategate bust is easier for people to glance over and grasp the full implications right away. This 9/11 Flight 77 cockpit door revelation is much more subtle and technical, but it is a similar wide-open bust. That is, if it is truly verifiable and is the type of evidence that could stand up in court.

After conducting additional research into this situation, we have verified, according to flight manifests (legally binding documents) that the individual that allegedly created a first-hand account of events on-board AirTran Airways flight 297, a Theodore Petruna, was never actually on-board the flight.
According to all available records, Mr. Petruna’s trip originated from Akron-Caton, Ohio (CAK) on AirTran flight 205. This flight arrived at the gate in Atlanta at 5:06 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Flight 297, the flight which Mr. Patruna allegedly wrote a first-hand account of, originally pushed back from its gate in Atlanta at 4:40 p.m. EST, a full 26 minutes before flight 205 arrived at the gate in Atlanta making this flight connection impossible.
While Mr. Patruna was originally scheduled to begin his journey on AirTran flight 202 from CAK and connect to flight 297 in Atlanta he did not make that original flight.
On November 17, 2009, AirTran flight 297 was scheduled to travel from Atlanta to Houston-Hobby. During taxi a passenger was non-compliant with Crew Members, using a cell phone and taking pictures. The flight taxied back to the gate and the passenger, who did not speak English, and his companion acting as his interpreter were asked to de-plane. They were met by customer service personnel and TSA.
The passengers were allowed to re-board and continued on the flight after speaking with AirTran and TSA representatives. The flight was delayed by more than two hours.
Since the flight and initial media reports, several blogs and Internet sites have recounted the incident as portrayed by a passenger originally scheduled for the flight. Below is that passenger’s account (unedited in any way including spelling and grammar), as reported on several blogs. Highlighted between the passenger’s account, are the factually accurate circumstances surrounding this incident.
We bring this to your attention in order to dispel myths that are beginning to make the rounds in chat rooms, blogs and conspiracy theorists’ Web sites.
