The Marketwatch* piece I read indicated Obama had declared this federal emergency because H1N1 deaths in the US had reached 1,000 -- 100 of them children.
Ok. We're supposed to believe this number --- why? Since when does 1,000 of 300,000,000 constitute a "national emergency?"
Here are a few more questions inquiring minds would like answered:
What are the names of the 1,000 dead?
Where were these victims located within the 46 states mentioned as the reason for declaring this emergency? Are they primarily urban, rural, or a mix?
Did the victims get the flu shot before dying?
Did the victims get one or two shots before dying?
If the victims received flu shots, were they symptomatic for flu prior to receiving the shot or only after receiving the shot?
Were all 1,000 victims afflicted with Swine Flu or were there some "regular" flu deaths mixed in with these numbers?
What is the ethnic composition of the dead -- native American, white, black, mexican, asian?
Is the percentage of deaths within each ethnic group around the same or are there inflated numbers in certain ethnic groups that cannot be accounted for by socio-economic factors such as extreme poverty?

These, IMO, are just a few of the questions that we'd all benefit from having answered BEFORE the government declares a federal state of emergency.
