A chick in an egg is a useful metaphor for understanding the effect of a Saturn / Uranus transit. Saturn represents the shell of an egg that has become too small for the growing chick. REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT IN THE AIR
In early 1762 pressures may have resembled today's in many respects.
Reckoning from the (then un-built) Washington Monument, and according to calculated Tables of daily motion, in the first days of the year 1762 AD Saturn and Uranus would have been seen close in longitude against the backdrop of the Tropical Zodiac, in 5+ Aries. Pluto inched through the last arc-seconds of Sagittarius on January 8, 1762. Tables indicate that Mercury passed Pluto in longitude that day as well. The calculated model shows Mercury actually was first of the pair out of Sagittarius and into Capricorn, crossing the line about ten hours before Pluto, then transiting into 2 Cap several hours after Pluto Ingress. Also, including (not yet discovered) Chiron, on the same January day in 1762 the Moon completed a "Grand Trine" in 17+ Gemini-Libra-Aquarius. Even more: At coordinates of the (yet to be built) Washington Monument on that day, the Vertex ("Destiny's Gate") swept through Pluto's degree, 1 Capricorn: AN INDIAN CHIEF CLAIMS POWER FROM THE ASSEMBLED TRIBE. AUTHORITY. Major world events of the subsequent ~45 years--prior to the start of the next Saturn-Uranus cycle in late 1805--suggest the scope and scale of events for the cycle that began in 1988, which rolls-over to begin again with six planets in Tropical Gemini including a triple conjunction when Mars passes through the degree of Saturn and Uranus in June, 2032.

Given that the orbs of influence with slow-moving planets mean we feel them before and after the aspects are exact, we have a two year plus window of time in which these two planets oppose each other. This happens every 45.4 years, and the last time was 1965-67 and before that, 1918-1920.
Both of these periods saw big cultural changes: the aftermath of World War 1 brought the demise of the certainty of class privilege in the West, and Spanish flu laid tragedy upon the already traumatized by killing more people than had died in the war itself. In the mid-’60s the counterculture emerged as an articulate alternative to the blind pursuit of the American dream and automatic support for the overt hegemony of the military-industrial complex. For the first time in history, young people all over the world voiced their social criticism en masse. This time, so far, we’re seeing sweeping changes to our financial systems and sense of material security. Will Saturn/Uranus sound the death knell to calcified, spiritually-defunct concepts of materialism?

It will be important, in either case, to avoid the twin evils of either a dependence on or a return to the past, or an over-radical transformation which would destroy that part of the past which is essential to the future.

In Tolstoy's War and Peace, the old regime (Saturn in Leo) was breaking apart (Uranus moving from Capricorn into Aquarius): The Russian aristocracy was dancing on its own grave. Although the main historical event of the novel--Napoleon's invasion of Russia--took place well before the Saturn-Uranus opposition, Tolstoy was reflecting his own Saturn-Uranus opposition in the mirror of history.
The shattering (Uranus) of the old social order (Saturn) was a major theme in Tolstoy’s writing, echoing his own life and personal beliefs. Throughout his life, he broke society’s rules. In his youth, he flaunted social conventions, and— although he was born into the Russian aristocracy—Tolstoy sided with the Russian peasants, eventually opening several schools for them on his own land. As he grew older, he adopted the dress and simple living conditions of poor peasants, rebelling against the social order into which he was born.
In the U.S. in 1828, Andrew Jackson, a reform president—the “People’s President”—was elected during the same Saturn-Uranus opposition that was ongoing during Tolstoy’s birth. “Jacksonian democracy” is a phrase which has come to mean government of the common man (an Aquarian ideal).
Saturn also opposed Uranus in 1919-1920, when the old (pre-WWI) world was shattered, and the “new” 1920’s came into being. The mid-1960’s Saturn-Uranus opposition (which also included a Uranus-Pluto conjunction) was marked by the breaking apart of old cultural structures.
We are already experiencing another major change gathering momentum with the Saturn-Uranus opposition and Pluto's entry into Capricorn. It's palpable: I step outside my front door and the old world is breaking apart, the ground shifting beneath my feet. In 2010, the Saturn-Uranus opposition will move from mutable signs to 0 degrees of cardinal signs. When the dust settles (and I hope it's only figurative dust), our world will not be the same.

This is just the first leg down of the Cardinal Climax. Two things are unfolding this year. First, Pluto moved into Capricorn on January 26, 2008 for a brief time (until June 13). It will re-enter it for 15 years beginning on Nov 26, 2008. The second is that a five-fold passage of Saturn and Uranus begins in 2008. The first passage happens right on Election Day, Nov 4, 2008, and that will continue through July 26, 2010. However, it is apparent that the headwinds of this powerful 45-year planetary opposition, as well as the 248-year Pluto-in-Capricorn cycle, are happening right now. My “best guess” is that we do not hit the peak of the Saturn-Uranus opposition cycle until the middle of its time band, or around September 2009, +/-4 months.

The opposition phase is a time to confront head-on the fruits of our actions and inactions during the previous phases of the cycle since the conjunction point. In this case, that means since 1988. But it will also echo the previous opposition of 1965-67, which saw race riots and protests about the Vietnam war in the USA.
Crisis points do not have to be violent. They only require that we face up to what we have been denying and deal with it in the wisest way possible. A crisis is an opportunity to correct our imbalances, to put right what we have been doing wrong, to make adjustments in the direction we have taken, and to integrate what we have excluded. How we handle these moments depends on how willing we are listen to the feedback we get from the world around us.
During the past crisis points of this Saturn-Uranus cycle that willingness to listen has not been there, and that lack of respect has thereby turned a crisis into a conflict and a clash of wills. This need not be so. But if we use the Saturn-Uranus energy as a force of autocracy and ideological fundamentalism then we are choosing to perpetuate pain and suffering. We must clear away the conflicts of our history and use this cycle as constructively as we are able.
In light of this, a recent announcement that Germany is now prepared to open up holocaust records previously only available to the International Red Cross is interesting. Although the final decision has not yet been made, the records will take some time to complete the digitalisation process. The Saturn-Uranus conjunction of 1942 coincided with the peak of the holocaust. Could it be that the Saturn-Uranus opposition from 2008 to 2010 will reflect another chance for us to illuminate to the greatest extent possible the issues that resonate with this planetary cycle?

The more one becomes aware of something lacking, the more one becomes frustrated with the current condition, for it restricts or limits what one can do.
Saturn in Virgo therefore relates to the growing frustration of those who do the work – the working class, the middle class. They look around and they see that they do all this work. Yet when the business fails, it is they who suffer, not the management that made the decisions that led to the failure. The workers are the ones who lose their jobs or give up benefits. And oftentimes when those in management make these failed decisions, they leave the company and receive huge financial bonuses, known as “Golden Parachutes.” And even while they are there, if the company prospers, it is these decision-makers who also receive huge end-of-year bonuses – at least huge in comparison to the much smaller bonuses given to those who did the hands-on work. It is not that these conditions have not existed forever between management and labor, between the wealthy and the middle class. It is just that now, in the first decade of this new century, the rate of growth and rewards between management and the work force has widened to its largest distortion ever.
On the positive side, Saturn in the middle of zodiac (Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio) impels humanity towards a greater social consciousness, one that rewards those who exhibit care ands concern for all people, and not just the privileged few. Just as Saturn in Leo (2005-2007) was not a good time to be the leader of government or large company, so Saturn in Virgo-Libra-Scorpio will not be a favorable time to be extremely wealthy and out of touch with the needs of “the common man.” Those who are may become the target of some hostile actions by those who believe these “super-rich” are basically exploiters of other people, and the cause of the disparity between the classes. As such, we may soon see not only strikes, but organized efforts to boycott companies that the “common man” feels is taking advantage of others, especially by rising prices to levels that “the common man” can no longer afford. However, those who are talented at a particular skill may find this to be an excellent period of business growth. Saturn in Virgo is an auspicious period in which to perfect a skill or talent through hard work and commitment to excellence.
This is when the forces of change will clash most violently with the forces of the status quo (actually it may continue and even escalate into Uranus square Pluto, 2012-2015). Once again, just as the last time this aspect unfolded in the mid-1960’s, the Establishment (government, big business) is seen as the cause of all the social ills in the world. The Establishment is seen as being “out of touch” with the real world, and the “common man.” Uranus demands change, and Saturn resists it. Uranus wants equality and freedom, and believes Saturn has lost touch with basic ideals of human rights, liberties, and fairness. Uranus wants to throw out the “old,” and usher in a brave new world that is more progressive and more in tune with the needs of the “common man.” Thus we can expect that a major shift in the direction of the masses – the collective – will start now, and will be every bit as effective as an agent of change as was the case when these planets were last in opposition in the mid-1960’s and early 1920’s.
This will likely be a very exciting time to be alive, but possibly an unstable and dangerous one as well. Saturn rules governments and the boundaries of its nations. Uranus rules new leadership, revolts, and coups. We can anticipate the sudden overthrow of many leaders of nations whose population feel their leaders have lost their ability to lead or even be representative of the needs of that population. Especially vulnerable will be those nations that are led by military leaders. The “Establishment” leaders will more than likely try to sway the public back to their side by claiming these protesters are extremists and radicals. They will try to scare the public back into the fold, for still this is period when “fear sells.” However it is not likely to work as it did earlier in the decade, for this is the last of the “Triple Saturn Oppositions,” and it follows Saturn and Neptune in opposition, which means that there is likely to be a host of revelations about scandals and corruptions attached to those who represent “The Establishment.”

[Maggie Kerr:] On October 30th 2009 Saturn moves on from Virgo after setting the stage for the new organisational systems, and heads into Libra for the next 2 years until October 2011. As Libra is the sign opposite Aries… the ‘beginning’ point in any planetary cycle we begin to experience the “full point” to his cycle begun in 1996. Aries and Libra are the 2 “Cardinal Points” that underpin evolutionary movement. Libra is the sign of the “other” and all things to do with relating, including as previously mentioned the necessity for diplomatic function, arbitration and the bringing together of opposing people and points of view. It is the sign of the “peace maker”. It is also one of the “business signs” and involves all forms of promotions and marketing.
The final pass of the Saturn/Uranus opposition occurs in July 2010 also at zero degrees of Aries and Libra. Uranus enters Aries in 2010 initiating a new 84 year cycle. The last time he was in Aries was from 1928 through 1935… he spends 7 years in each sign. This era brought us a brave new world in so many ways. Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic… the great depression initiated a new phase in economic development… the rise of the great Dictators Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin led to World War II…and so much more. So it would appear that the 5 passes of Saturn opposition Uranus from 2008 through 2010 are the “set up” process for the larger and more significant planetary phase involving the same 3 major players that were at work during the early 1930s. And they are Saturn, Uranus and Pluto.
Between December 1930 and February 1934 these agents of revolution/change (Uranus), re-structuring of societal systems (Saturn) and transformation and regeneration (Pluto) formed hard or challenging aspects to each other several times. Pluto was only discovered in 1930 coinciding with the creation of Plutonium as the atomic process was delivered to us by ‘cracking the atom’. Since this time we have had the power to annihilate or empower ourselves! This was the time of the Great Depression with the outcome in the US of the “Green Deal” through the President Franklin Roosevelt. With the 3 dictators in place in Europe and the ascendancy of Imperial Japan onto the world stage the scene was set for the eventual outcome of World War II. Obviously there is much more historical material here but again I will save for larger article to come.
In the early 1930s the position of these 3 planets in the Solar System looked like:
Saturn in Capricorn
square Uranus in Aries
square Pluto in Cancer
So Saturn in Capricorn was opposing Pluto in Cancer and both were being squared by Uranus in Aries.
Between November 2009 and April 2014 these three formidable characters again form hard and challenging aspects to each other but this time it will look like this:
Pluto in Capricorn
square Uranus in Aries
opposite Saturn in Libra
So we see that this time Pluto is in the opposite sign to the 1930s and is being squared by both Saturn in Libra and Uranus in Aries. Uranus in Aries is the common denominator. This is the planetary “signature” of the early 2010s, and with the acceleration toward the end date of the Mayan Calendar in December 2012 (5) as a ‘midpoint’ I find it truly fascinating that these three planets are to be the energetic forces underpinning the “shift” in human consciousness that must occur, if we are all to work together to bring the necessary changes for planet Earth. In the 1930s the build-up from these forces led to a world war. We can only hope that with the 2 sets of Uranus/Saturn oppositions in the 1960s and 2008/2010 bringing us the spiritualising revolutions toward a higher state of awareness, that this time the results will be very different. There are many from the Christian traditions who see these times as the “end days”, and indeed many who read negative associations onto the 2012 Mayan Calendar date. I am not one of these people as I see the potential of these times containing upliftment of the human condition ‘out of the dark toward the light’ in preparation for the changing of the Age of Pisces into Aquarius over the next 100 years.
