Those inclined to check and verify may have little difficulty finding a variety of sources that agree: "Saturn" was the celestial body the ancients meant when using terms such as "Sol" and "Helios".
In the traditional aphorism Saturn is "Father Time". The terminus of Zep-Tepi (popularized as "First Time" or, alternatively: "Before Time") arrived with the cataclysm that abruptly ended the Pleistocene Era. Remembering that "Sol" was the permanent "central star above the pole", consider that Rome gave us via Saturnalia the Christmas Tree topped by a Star.
With the current emphasis in Capricorn on the Tropical Zodiac, ruled by Saturn, it is interesting to consider that we are receiving information on other levels also, in addition to hard data that can be processed by the finite-rational intellect. Such an inflow is indicated in Mercury's passage through Pluto's longitude 12/12/08... the first conjunction to Pluto since that of Jupiter 12/12/07... in the first degree of Capricorn.

ALSO, Saturn recently began a long-running Opposition to Uranus.
With the December '08 cluster in Capricorn, one might imagine that Saturn has greatly increased influence and might prevail over Uranus. This may be true as '08 becomes '09, but the nod goes to Uranus quite suddenly during January. We may be able to discern this difference from the first exact Saturn-Uranus pass on 4 November '08 when the second exact pass comes around 5 February '09.
Initially, under the added influence of transiting Saturn conjunct America's natal Neptune, the famous austerity of the Saturn/Capricorn symbolism holds forth. The sudden appearance of massive "loss" of "profits" denominated in "Fed Res Note" debt instruments hit planetary society like one of those severe blows to the belly. Will we ever breathe/live again?
As the "weighting" shifts from Saturn to Uranus in early '09 we might sense guidance coming into focus that brings great relief.
What society is "loosing for real" is the prevalence of Ego-Identification and ensuing consecration or prostitution of "God-given" creative endowments to the survival of that illusionary identification of Self. This was brought about by the "politicization" of the populace, and administrative violence (engineered famines, wars, depressions) was the means.
As we now can clearly see, (formerly?) sovereign Americans bought into the promised comforts of a "Social Security" contract. But the surplus produced--and more--was collected and concentrated.
Sufficient awakening and vivification (through use) of the group mind endowment will bring to the forefront of public thought a compelling awareness that earth-human society can easily produce more than it needs, and that benefits to society (improved "standard of living") are vastly greater when the surplus is distributed intelligently rather than concentrated by a "hoard to survive" mind set.
This may sound too much like something very familiar throughout much of the world until Totalitarianism is removed from the alchemy and replaced with integrative incentives and a cultivated premium given to intelligent sharing.
Much of this is demonstrated in the Alaska Permanent Fund. Families the size of the Palins get more than $19,000 from the state this year. Yet, Totalitarianism is hardly a leading characteristic of the Alaska mind set.
It is interesting that the Social Credit model is presented in Alaska, where (along with Siberia) immanent thawing of vast organic material in the permafrost threatens or promises to release very significant amounts of methane, which has some twenty times more greenhouse-gas effect than carbon dioxide.
Was the global-warming con necessary as an indirect way to vector society toward a "cleanup" mentality? Is the methane threat everything in seriousness that global-warming is not?
It is easy to look at the ultra-precise relationship of geometric proportion at work in our Lunar and Solar eclipses, and the measurements of Earth and Earth-Sun incorporated in the design of the Giza complex, and imagine that a code was placed to tell us that, following the extinguishing of Saturn's light and the capture of its "moons" by our present Sun, there was an architect's hand in the configuration of the solar system.
A planetary society ("capstone") was lost or destroyed, a replacement implied. But the place is in a mess and things have to be cleaned up.

If there truly is a conscious force steering planetary evolution, some of the responsibility for the imperative cleanup rests on that "higher authority". This may give some insight into developments that DO seem to be totalitarian.

Once more a reference to ancestral achievements occurs among these symbols for the sign Virgo. It is seen here in its most exalted character, for "royalty" is spoken of. Traditionally the king is the spiritual symbol of unity of an integrated nation; as a coat of arms is visualized, we are dealing with a status that is not merely personally acquired but has its roots in a notable past. Every great Adept has come out of a line of human beings who have made their marks upon human evolution. Spiritual attainment is the result of a series of long, repeated efforts; it is the end of a "royal road," (raja yoga) in the broadest sense of the term, raja, meaning king... Gautama the Buddha was known occultly as "He who comes after his predecessors." The coat of arms represents the collective status, the Spiritual Office. Saturn in the degree that has the above symbol suggests we'll see "supplication" in business and government ("the corporate world") throughout 2009.
Saturn in this configuration indicates that those who engineered the imbalanced and distorted system now collapsing, bringing misery to so many, will see their creation circling back for redemption in the coming year.
