A Death of a Statesman - Too Convinient for his Opponents...
A very popular statesman has died. One of Austria's most charismatic politicians and a most brilliant expert for laws has passed much too young. Possibly he would have been Austria's next chancellor which was his lifelong goal.
The Accident happend shortly after 1:00am (local time) when Joerg Haider was driving home from Klagenfurt in his car to his remote estate in Feistritz/Rosental as he was preparing for celebrations for his mother's 90th birthday this weekend.
The charismatic Austrian politician was overtaking another car in the sleepy village of Lambichel when his VW-Phaeton veered off the road to the right, crashed into a garden and overturned.
The woman in the car behind him stopped immideately and called the ambulance but reportedly had "problems" to get her call through (a remark that we could read in first editions but dissapeared during the day). Haider, who was born on Jan 26, 1950, suffered severe injuries to his head and chest and was finally taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police didn't return any comments, had closed the road and were conducting thorough investigations till the time being.
Anyhow the time seems just too convinient. After the general elections in Austria the "old establishment" of the two big parties (Socialists, Conservatives) had experienced severe losses while Haider's former party, the FPOE and the split BZOE had won together almost the majority of the Ausstrian votes. Nevertheless the Socialists who were decleared as the "winners" had been informed by the Prezi to start the negotiations to establish a new government which would not be an easy task without the support of the two popular parties.
But back to the "accident".
Although "foul play" was immediately ruled out I am going along with Rayelan's first thought that this smells.
A similar thing happened to Austrian Karl Schleinzer,Federal Party chairman of the Austrian people's party, who died in 1975 ahaed of the upcoming elections. Right in time...
