I did run across this, I think it was called gas on gas pricing & the discussion was about that the oil & gas is cheap, it's the transportation that adds much more to the cost, as you said.
The other part about it was that power plants are very profitable because the act as a control interface in the grid system.
I think that's why Enron won't release the documents to the CA courts & they are facing contempt charges. They specialize in the power plants.
This gets us into the whole CA "Energy Crisis" which was a Boyz Family fixer.
But back to the price of oil.
Someone a while ago explained to me that there is an agreement/arrangement between the US government & the oil companies that is not generally known.
I do not know the exact details, but the point is that much money goes directly into some govt. coffer from this agreement.
It was something a bit more complex than just a tax.
Was it that there is a govt. cut taken first & then a price per barrel is arrived at & then tax comes off of that?
I don't know, I heard this in the context of an archaeology project & at the time me wee brain didn't think to take it further!
So far that's all I know; need to know more.
