U2 "DRAGON LADY" SPOTTED IN FOSSETT SEARCH AREA TWO DAYS AGO...
To: NormsRevenge
Norm, spotted what I am sure was a Dragon Lady inbound to the area this morning. He was skirting the balloon races to the South. Maybe out of NASA Ames. 9 posted on 09/09/2007 3:31:17 PM PDT by mad_as_he$$ (Remember Mustang 22 and her heroes.)
From the USAF-Site: The U-2, known as well as "Dragon Lady", provides high-altitude, all-weather surveillance and reconnaissance, day or night, in direct support of U.S. and allied forces. It delivers critical imagery and signals intelligence to decision makers throughout all phases of conflict, including peacetime indications and warnings, low-intensity conflict, and large-scale hostilities....

In 1956 the term "Dragon Lady" was born with a major Central Intelligence Agency operation by the same name using the U-2. It comes with a wide range of all kinds of different sensors. The plane has a modular equipment that can be exchanged very quickly depending on the necessities of the mission. E.g. - detecting possible emissions from a nuclear warhead in REALTIME-PROCESSING...
Meanwhile the "search radius" for Fossett's missing plane has been "concentrated" on a 80-km radius around the private airstrip Fossett took off on Labour Day.
Within the range - or at least in its close vicinity - is the Hawthorne Army Depot. From Global Security (emphasis added):
...In its 2005 BRAC Recommendations, DoD recommended to close Hawthorne Army Depot, NV....
...To reduce redundancy and remove excess from the Industrial Base, the closure would allow DoD to create centers of excellence and establish deployment networks that support readiness. Hawthorne Army Depot had infrastructure problems that severely limited the ability to offload.
The total estimated one-time cost to the Department of Defense to implement this recommendation would be $180.3M. The net of all costs and savings to the Department during the implementation period would be a savings of $59.2M. Annual recurring savings to the Department after implementation would be $73.4M with a payback beginning immediately. The net present value of the costs and savings to the Department over 20 years would be a savings of $777.7M...
This year Sen Harry Reid overtuned that Pentagon-recommendation to close the Depot and moreover secured $3.95M for projects in connection with the Depot, expanding its services and offering to other branches of the military a training-facility, as providing for Navy SEALS and Army Special Forces another potential training site...
Lot's of military "waist" there.
Could be another perfect place to hide - whatever - whomever.
