PLEASE BE AWARE, FOR THOSE WHO HAVE KIDNEY & BLADDER PROBLEMS--!
We have a top-of-the-line Jupiter Melody water filter/ionizer/alkalinizer. We can set the pH for more acidic or more alkaline water; it goes up to pH 9.
After we got it last year, I used it for four months at just a slightly more alkaline setting (7.5) I couldn't figure out why I was urinating more frequently. I went to my doctor (back when I still had one) thinking I had a urinary tract infection. Instead, she told me that my urine pH was too alkaline!! She wondered why that could be and I told her I'd been adjusting the water to be more alkaline. She said NO-NO-NO...changing my water pH would keep the urine from being acidic enough, and urine needed to be acidic or there would be problems.
I ended up with interstitial cystitis and it is painful and will never go away. The conventional medical treatment for this condition causes extreme hair loss, and I'm kind of fond of my hair, as I've had it for a number of years, with all the evidence of having been arsenic-toxic, and I intend on keeping it, so I have refused to take the treatment.
So while alkalinized water might sound like a good idea to keep your system from being over-acidic, it's not the best for people with kidney or bladder problems. My kidneys have been overtaxed since being poisoned, so I should have known better.
It is easier to keep your system alkalinized by eating a diet LOW in acid, and eating alkalinizing food: lemons (the citric acid in lemons turns to alkaline in the human digestive tract), pineapples, melons, cucumbers, fresh greens, lightly cooked white meat. Avoid charred food, pepper, tomatotes, refined sugar (as well as refined flour or refined ANYTHING), soda, caffeine, etc.
Also try to keep from being so acidic by avoiding stress...my personal experience would be to suggest not operating a newspaper. LOL.
