WCCO) Shoreview, Minn. A recovery effort continued Monday morning for a man who is presumed drowned after he fell off an inner tube on Lake Owasso in Shoreview, Minn. Sunday.
According to the Lake Johanna Fire Department, they received a call a little after 2 p.m. that a 35-year-old man was missing after being thrown from a tube being pulled by a boat.
The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office said the boat made a turn, hit some waves and flipped the tube.
"He fell off his tube and pretty hard, like the tube thing was in the air when he fell off," said Vanessa Lopez, who witnessed the accident.
Authorities said the three people on the boat saw the man before he went under.
According to the fire department, the victim was not wearing a life jacket.
The Minnesota State Patrol helicopter was searching for the man from the air. Five divers from three different agencies are searching in the area where the man went under.
"We're not seeing much except for that they just keep going back and forth and the divers go down and they come up," said Georgine Waczak, who was watching the search.
Waczek's husband allowed crews to borrow their boat for the search.
"They just wanted to use his boat and use him because he does have a depth finder," she said.
Authorities said the water was about 24 feet deep and the visibility in the water is so bad that divers are only able to see one to two feet in front of them.
