This is exactly what is happening in the "Boeremag" trial in South Africa where
22 innocent men,whose only crime is that they want their wives and children to
live in a safe environment,are being charged with treason.
I personally know some of these men,and when I supported them by attending the
trial(which was open for spectators)on a regular basis,i suddenly got a
"friendly" visit from the police.
As I am a member of the South African Military Police,they thought it courteous
to send a Military Police member with the +- 20 or so heavily armed
policemen(when I say heavily armed I mean they had automatic assault
rifles(R5,similar to Israeli galil)equipped with laser sights and torches,9m
pistols and knives,and were wearing bulletproofs,and battle jackets/combat
webbing,containing stun grenades,tear gas,and other COMBAT equipment such as
extra magazines/clips etc.)who came to search the apartment of ONE UNARMED MAN
WHO DIDN'T EVEN OWN A FIREARM.
As I am a policeman of sorts myself,I recognized the policeman's knock at about
04:00 that Tuesday morning(policemen have a distinctive knock,a little louder
than a normal person's).
As I opened the door they were surprised to find me awake(I was supposed to
start with my 1st dayshift for the week and was preparing for work).
They produced a search warrant of which the authenticity is highly
questionable,stating that they were looking for articles pertaining to the
continuation of a planned coup,yet the articles they confiscated were religious
documents and folk dance club documents,which they still haven't returned after
5years.They asked me all sorts of silly questions with the aim to embarrass me
in front of the female officer that accompanied them,and to get information
about the case from me.(Even if I co-operated with them,this would still be
futile since they knew more about the case than I did)I treated them with as
much contempt as possible,without creating the impression that I wanted to
obstruct justice,but I got the idea that they were being careful not to make
mistakes.I know the law,my rights,and what a police official is supposed to do
in such a case,since I am in the same profession.They were aware of this.
Even so,they still illegally questioned me(I was not under arrest and didn't
willingly make any statements,yet I had nothing to hide),at no point informing
me of my legal rights(which they are required by by law to do).
The items they confiscated were not stipulated in the warrant,and I was not in
possession of any items listed on the warrant.
Now in South Africa searches are done on the basis of REASONABLE SUSPICION.
The question arises however whether a suspicion can be considered REASONABLE,if
a search has indeed produced no evidence of a crime.
Upon queries to military law officers,I was informed that the Police can
indeed get away with it because of the new "Anti Terrorism Law" only recently
introduced into my country.
All this just for being a spectator in court!!!.
These men's wives and children,close friends and relatives were subjected to
even worse treatment,as they would not know what their rights were,some women
even being assaulted and indecently assaulted by male policemen.
We stand in solidarity with you against government tyranny!!!
