Removing the FED would be nice but I don't think it would be enough. What about the World Bank and the IMF? I think that instead of simply abolishing an institution like the FED, they should change banking laws and reform the present organizations. Banning usury for example, and fractional reserve banking.
Also a dollar backed by gold is not necessarily better. That would give too much power to those who own most of it now, and the manipulation games would continue as there's not enough gold for everyone. Paper money has value because as a society we give it value, and it works fine. It's just an exchange measure. It would be a matter of having the government print just the right amount of money to help the economy grow. Of course the printing should be interest free, which it's not now.
